How To Clean Leather Upholstery

Leather upholstery has become a really affordable, classy and comfortable option for any living room. Leather is very durable and it is recommended for high-traffic areas as it resists heavy use.

Upholstery cleaning and especially cleaning leather upholstery requires a little bit of previous research. Before starting to clean your leather sofa, for instance, ask yourself what kind of leather do you have on your hands. Check tags on the upholstery and make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. When choosing a cleaning solution in the supermarket check whether it is appropriate for leather upholstery. Because of the chemicals they consist of, some solutions cause leather to shrink. If you are not sure in the detergent, try it on an area that is not really visible. Once you find the right solution you will see that cleaning upholstery made of leather is a piece of cake. Of course, you don’t always need a special solution, as you could clean leather furniture using lukewarm water and soap (like Dove, for instance). It is simple as that. Just take a bowl mix the water with soap and all you need is a towel or a sponge and clean gently – don’t scrub. Use a towel to dry the area.

Taking care of leather upholstery doesn’t always mean cleaning it. Put all leather furniture away from direct sunlight, as it causes leather to crack, and its’ colours to fade quicker. If you take good care of your leather sofa, you should be able to use it for 10-15 years or even more.
